The internet has changed my life for the better and opened
so many doors and opportunities for me. It is able to act as my eyes and ears
in places I could never dream to travel, give me access to news, science, and
research that I would otherwise never learn about, help me discover my passion
for business and law, and help me, a nervous inexperienced teenager trying to
enter the work field, find jobs. Without the internet, my education and passion
and eagerness to learn would be diminished to whatever I could find at my local
library or school. I have used the internet for my education, ever since my dad
hooked up high speed internet at my house in 5th grade. Everything from middle
school science fair research to applying to colleges on the other side of the
country.
As a
sophomore in college at the University of Central Florida, I continue to use
the internet in my everyday life. This summer, I knew I wanted to enter the
field of business/law, but I didn't know anything about it or where to start.
My natural eagerness to learn couldn't allow myself to just sit around all
summer, so I looked up every law firm in my city and emailed every attorney
asking if there was any room for an eager to learn, volunteer student at their firm. It may have been a long shot,
but I got an email back from one attorney who offered me a part time
internship! They even hired me full time by the end of the summer! I was also about the use the internet to land
a campus representative position for Southern Proper, a men's clothing brand. I
filmed a short video about myself and how I could best represent their brand,
uploaded it to YouTube, and emailed it to them. I am proud to say that I will
be serving as 2014 - 2015 Campus Rep for them this school year!
Without
these opportunities the internet provides, I would not have been able to make
such large steps in my educational career and towards my future this summer. I plan to continue to use the internet, like I did this summer, to open the door for me in finding new and creative ways to achieve the career I want for myself!
